Overview

AskWP is an open-source WordPress plugin. This privacy policy explains how the AskWP marketing website (askwp.dev) handles personal data. It does not cover third-party sites or the behavior of the AskWP plugin itself on sites that install it — each site operator is responsible for their own privacy policy.

Categories of Data and Purposes

Website Provision

When you visit this website, technical usage data — including your IP address, browser type, operating system, access time, and referring URL — is temporarily processed in server logs to ensure secure and stable delivery of the site.

Communication

If you contact us by email, we process the personal data you provide solely to respond to your inquiry and manage correspondence.

Chat Widget

This website uses the AskWP chat widget for demonstration purposes. Messages you send are forwarded to a third-party LLM provider (such as OpenAI or Anthropic) to generate responses. Conversations are stored only in your browser’s localStorage and are not saved on our servers. No conversation content is logged server-side. You can clear your conversation at any time by clearing your browser data.

Legal Bases (GDPR)

  • Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR — Processing necessary for pre-contractual steps at your request
  • Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR — Legitimate interest in maintaining a secure, stable website and answering inquiries
  • Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR — Consent for optional analytics, withdrawable at any time
  • Art. 6(1)(c) GDPR — Processing necessary to meet legal obligations and statutory retention requirements

Hosting

This website is hosted by WordPress.com (Automattic Inc., 60 29th Street #343, San Francisco, CA 94110, USA). Automattic processes server logs and technical data under a data processing agreement with appropriate safeguards for international transfers, including EU Standard Contractual Clauses.

Third-Party Services

Google Fonts

This site loads typefaces from Google Fonts (Google LLC). When you visit a page, your browser connects to Google’s servers to download font files. Google may receive your IP address in the process. See Google’s privacy policy for details.

LLM Providers

If you use the chat widget on this site, your messages are sent to the configured LLM provider (e.g., OpenAI or Anthropic) for processing. These providers have their own privacy policies and data processing agreements. Neither provider uses API data for model training.

Data Retention

  • Server log files are automatically deleted within 30 days unless needed for security investigations.
  • Email correspondence is retained for up to six years under applicable commercial and tax retention requirements.
  • Chat conversations exist only in your browser and are never stored on our servers.

Data Disclosures

Personal data is shared with service providers only when necessary and under GDPR-compliant data processing agreements. We do not sell personal data.

Your Rights

Under the GDPR, you have the following rights regarding your personal data:

  • Right of access (Art. 15 GDPR)
  • Right to rectification (Art. 16 GDPR)
  • Right to erasure (Art. 17 GDPR)
  • Right to restrict processing (Art. 18 GDPR)
  • Right to data portability (Art. 20 GDPR)
  • Right to object (Art. 21 GDPR)
  • Right to withdraw consent at any time
  • Right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority (Art. 77 GDPR)

We aim to respond to all requests within one month (Art. 12 GDPR). Contact us at [email protected].

Security

We implement technical and organizational measures to protect your data against loss, misuse, unauthorized access, and disclosure. These measures are reviewed periodically and adjusted as needed.

Updates

This policy may be updated when legal requirements or our processing activities change. The “Last updated” date at the top reflects the most recent revision.
